April 12, 2018 - 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
Learning Parties is designed to teach parents how to improve their children’s basic language and literacy skills so they can enter school “ready to learn.
During each lesson, parents learned simple but creative ways to engage their children in reading and broaden their vocabulary skills. Meanwhile, the children, ages 3-5, participated in fun learning activities that corresponded to what their parents were learning. At the end of the parent and child sessions, parents and children reunited to share what they each had done and practice together.
In Washington County, 25% of children enter school without the basic foundation to be “ready to learn.” Within the City of Hagerstown the number is 33%. Language and literacy skills are a key component of readiness and of a child’s ability to succeed in school as well as later in life.
HARC’s Learning Party series is a true partnership with St. Mark's Lutheran Church. The next session of Learning Parties will begin Thursday evening, April 12, 5:30 - 7:00 pm, and each Thursday evening through May 3. As always, volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve the dinner, clean up, and to assist with the 3 - 5 year olds. Please contact Elaine Rose at 301-730-0750 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help one or multiple weeks. Thank you.
Families must register to attend. Please contact the church office - 301-733-7550.
