My Cup Overflows

I usually think that “I’m a glass half full kinda girl”. However, these days my cup overflows. As I write this, we are preparing to travel to North Carolina for Mandy’s graduation and temporary move back home and within two weeks, we will be celebrating Andrew’s graduation as well as all the typical year-end celebratory events that go along with senior year. The fact is, my life has always been filled to the brim; it’s just that I didn’t always appreciate all the things that fill it.

Let us take time and congratulate all of St. Mark’s graduates for 2015: Lauren Ashely Barrett, daughter of Fred and Lisa Barrett, graduated from Salisbury with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work. Lauran will be pursuing her master’s Degree in social work at the University Systems of Maryland through Salisbury in the fall. Jordan Taylor Carpenter, granddaughter of John and Linda Kauffman, graduated from South Hagerstown High School and will be attending Mount St. Mary’s in the fall.

Inspire … Serve … Grow are in our mission statement. Building Faith, Finding Friendships is our tagline. Do we express this as individuals and Disciples of Christ here at St. Mark’s? In Sunday’s sermon we heard Paul state, “we are adopted children of God, instilled with the Holy Spirit to say Abba Father and co-inheritor’s of the kingdom of God with Christ” yet do we just hear the words or do we live the words? Do they change how we live, make decisions and relate to each other?

The following was sent by a St. Mark’s member and we thought it had a good message: A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. “I've gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”
